New details have emerged in the investigation of the firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Juhu residence. The Mumbai Crime Branch has revealed that the shooter, allegedly linked to the Bishnoi gang, utilized an advanced country-made firearm capable of firing 7.62 mm rounds—a caliber typically associated with high-velocity rifles and military-grade weaponry.
The Ballistics: High-Velocity Firepower
During the attack on February 1, 2026, five rounds were fired at the building, with one bullet shattering a glass panel in the filmmaker’s first-floor gymnasium.

- The Weapon: Forensic analysis indicates the use of an “advanced country-made” variant of a 7.62 mm pistol. This caliber is known for deep penetration and high velocity, posing a significant threat.
- The Search: Investigators are now determining whether the weapon was a modified local piece or a high-end illegal import, as 7.62 mm rounds are far more lethal than the standard 7.65 mm or .32 bore pistols typically seen in local crimes.
The Escape: From Juhu to Vile Parle
The Crime Branch has successfully mapped the shooter’s movements following the 12:45 AM shooting.
- The Scooter Trail: The shooter initially fled on a scooter delivered from Pune by two accomplices, Siddharth Yenpure and Swapnil Sakat, who were reportedly paid ₹10,000 for the logistics.
- The Rickshaw Route: After abandoning the bike near Juhu, the suspect attempted to hail an autorickshaw to Kalyan, but the driver refused due to the distance. A second driver eventually dropped him near Vile Parle station.
- Vanishing Act: Since local trains were not running at that hour, police believe the shooter used a private vehicle to escape the city limits.
Bishnoi Gang Connection and Security Upgrades
A social media post by Shubham Lonkar and Arzoo Bishnoi claimed responsibility for the attack, labeling it a “trailer” and warning Shetty to stop “interfering” in their work.
- Mastermind Identified: Shubham Lonkar is suspected of coordinating the logistics and payments.
- Heightened Security: Following the incident, Mumbai Police have upgraded Rohit Shetty’s security detail. In addition to his personal guards, a dedicated police team has been stationed at Shetty Tower to ensure his safety.
