Rohit Sharma Keeps Options Open For 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup

Following India’s triumph in the ICC Champions Trophy, captain Rohit Sharma expressed uncertainty about his future involvement in the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. Despite leading his team to two consecutive white-ball titles, including the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the 37-year-old is cautious about committing to the next 50-over World Cup, which will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Rohit’s World Cup journey has been eventful, from missing the 2011 tournament as a youngster to playing in 2015 and vice-captaining the team in 2019. He contributed significantly with the bat, amassing 648 runs and five centuries, but India fell short in both editions. In the most recent World Cup, Rohit captained India but faced a heartbreaking loss to Australia in the final after a dominating 10-match winning streak.

As the 2027 World Cup approaches, Rohit will be 40 years old. While his age could impact his performance and reflexes, the experienced cricketer feels he has earned the right to decide his future.

“It is very hard to say that right now,” Rohit said, reflecting on the possibility of playing in 2027. “But I am keeping all my options open. I want to see how well I am playing. Right now, I am playing really, really well, and I am enjoying everything I’m doing with this team, and the team is enjoying my company as well, which is nice.”

Despite being on the cusp of his 38th birthday, Rohit emphasized that as long as he enjoys playing the game and contributing to the team’s success, he will continue to play.

“As long as I am enjoying the sport, I am enjoying playing the game, doing what I am doing for this team, I will continue to play,” he said. “It is something that really makes me happy. There are a lot of things involved, there is so much pride, and the way this team is playing, I do not want to leave this team.”

Rohit finished the 2025 Champions Trophy with 180 runs in five matches at an average of 36.00 and a strike rate of 100.00, with a best score of 76.
