Mumbai, October 7: Former India captain Rohit Sharma was the centre of attention at the 27th CEAT Cricket Rating (CCR) Awards held in Mumbai on Tuesday, marking his first public appearance since being replaced as India’s ODI captain.
The 38-year-old stalwart received a special memento for leading India to the Champions Trophy win earlier this year, India’s second consecutive ICC trophy under his leadership, following the T20 World Cup triumph in Barbados in June 2024. Rohit was presented the award by legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar.
Rohit’s removal as ODI captain was officially announced last Saturday by BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar, with Shubman Gill named as the new leader ahead of the upcoming three-match series in Australia, starting October 19. Rohit, along with Virat Kohli, has been selected in the squad, marking their return to international cricket since the Champions Trophy victory in Dubai in March.
