New Delhi [India]: In a significant moment for Indian cricket, Rohit Sharma has officially announced his retirement from Test cricket, bringing the curtain down on a distinguished chapter of his international career in the longest format. The 38-year-old Indian captain made the announcement via Instagram on Wednesday, thanking fans and teammates for their unwavering support.

“Hello everyone, I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format,” Rohit wrote in his Instagram story.
Rohit Sharma made his Test debut in 2013 and went on to feature in 67 matches, scoring 4,301 runs at an average of 45.22. His impressive red-ball resume includes 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries, with a career-best innings of 212 against South Africa in 2019.
As a Test captain, Rohit led India in 24 matches, winning 12 and losing 9. Despite criticism over India’s recent performance in Australia and the failure to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final, Rohit guided the team to the 2023 WTC Final held at The Oval.
Rohit’s decision to step away from Tests comes at a pivotal moment for Indian cricket, as the team transitions toward a younger core in all formats. While he exits the red-ball arena, Rohit remains available for ODIs, where he continues to be a mainstay in India’s batting lineup and leadership group.
His retirement closes the chapter on one of India’s most elegant and composed openers in whites, a player known for his sublime timing, commanding stroke play, and resilience on challenging pitches.
As Indian cricket fans reflect on Rohit Sharma’s Test legacy, the game bids farewell to a player who turned his white-ball brilliance into red-ball consistency, proving his mettle across formats.
