At the Walt Disney Studios Marketing Expo in Shanghai, Marvel showed off some stunning concept art that gave fans their first official look at Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. Fans and the media are going crazy with excitement and conjecture about the relocation, which didn’t follow the usual web notification.
The concept illustration shows Downey Jr. in a suit of armor that looks just like the one in the comics, with the famous green hood, cape, and metal mask. He is shown sitting on a throne with what looks like a very advanced piece of technology that lets people travel between universes. The title and images of the movie Avengers: Doomsday are quite similar to the 2015 Secret Wars comic book plot, in which Doctor Doom gains godlike abilities and lords over a broken reality called “Battleworld.”
People are getting really excited about the possibility of seeing Thanos on screen, which is similar to a famous comic book scene where Doctor Doom casually pulls out the Mad Titan’s spine. The idea of Downey Jr., the once popular Iron Man, coming back to the MCU as one of its most powerful villains has made this one of the most anticipated movies in years.
Some fans were skeptical about the casting at first, saying it was a “safe” decision or guessing that he would just be a “evil Tony Stark” version. However, the design that is true to the comics has mostly won over the fan community. On sites like Reddit, people are talking about how the movie looks and making guesses about its plot, such what Doctor Doom’s function would be in the multiverse and how he might be connected to other characters.
In July 2026, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will come out in theaters around the world, and Avengers: Doomsday will come out in December 2026.
