Washington [US], February 6: Netflix’s highly anticipated crime thriller The Whisper Man has gained significant attention with the legendary Robert De Niro confirmed to star in the adaptation of Alex North’s bestselling novel. Directed by James Ashcroft, the film is set to combine suspense with emotional depth, focusing on the complex father-son dynamics in the eerie backdrop of a decades-old serial killer case, according to Deadline.
The movie follows the story of a widow and crime writer whose 8-year-old son is abducted. Desperate for answers, the writer turns to his estranged father, a retired police detective, for help. Together, they uncover a disturbing connection to an old case involving a convicted serial killer known as “The Whisper Man.”
Production for The Whisper Man is set to begin this spring on the East Coast. The screenplay is adapted by Ben Jacoby and Chase Palmer from North’s original novel. The project will be the sixth collaboration between Netflix and AGBO, the production company co-founded by the Russo brothers—Anthony, Joe, and Angela Russo-Otstot. Michael Disco will also produce, with Kassee Whiting and Marcus Viscidi serving as executive producers.
This collaboration marks another Netflix venture for Robert De Niro, following his acclaimed role in The Irishman (2019), for which he received an Oscar nomination. De Niro is also set to star in Netflix’s upcoming drama series Zero Day, marking his first television series with the streaming giant. Additionally, he will appear in The Alto Knights, where he will portray dual roles for Warner Bros.
With The Whisper Man, De Niro once again steps into a gripping role that promises to deliver a compelling narrative filled with mystery and intrigue.
