Washington [US], January 15 : Warner Bros. has unveiled the first trailer for The Alto Knights, a highly anticipated mob drama directed by Barry Levinson, featuring Robert De Niro in a dual role.
The film, formerly titled Wise Guys, delves into the power struggle between two infamous Italian-American crime bosses in mid-20th century New York, as reported by Deadline.
Written by Nicholas Pileggi, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter known for Goodfellas, The Alto Knights centers on Vito Genovese (De Niro) and Frank Costello (De Niro), two key figures in organized crime who ran rival families. The plot is set during a pivotal moment in mob history, focusing on the 1957 assassination attempt by Genovese on Costello, which ultimately forces Costello to step away from the criminal world after surviving the attack.
This project marks a reunion between De Niro and Levinson, who previously collaborated on the Emmy-nominated HBO film The Wizard of Lies, as well as other notable films like What Just Happened, Wag the Dog, and Sleepers.
The film also stars Debra Messing, Cosmo Jarvis, and Kathrine Narducci. It is produced by Oscar-winning producer Irwin Winkler, alongside Levinson, Jason Sosnoff, Charles Winkler, and David Winkler, with Mike Drake serving as executive producer.
The Alto Knights will hit theaters on March 21.
