Businessman Robert Vadra, husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on Tuesday claimed that political motives were behind the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoning him in connection with an alleged land deal case in Gurugram. Vadra walked from his residence to the ED office in Delhi, in a show of defiance and solidarity with supporters.
Speaking to reporters, Vadra accused the BJP-led central government of misusing investigative agencies to target political opponents.
“Whenever I talk for the people, they try to suppress me. It’s a political vendetta. They misuse the power of the probing agencies. I have no fear—I have nothing to hide,” Vadra asserted.
A large group of Congress supporters accompanied Vadra during his march, chanting slogans like “Jab jab Modi darta hai, ED ko aage karta hai,” directly blaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly using central agencies like the ED for political pressure.
The ED summons comes amid increased political activity and criticism ahead of the upcoming elections. Vadra has been questioned in the past in multiple cases related to alleged irregular land deals and benami properties, particularly in Gurugram and Rajasthan. However, he has consistently denied any wrongdoing, claiming that these cases are politically motivated.
Vadra Expresses Willingness to Join Active Politics
The ED episode comes a day after Vadra hinted at entering active politics if the Congress party supports the move. In a recent interview with media, Vadra said he would consider taking the plunge with the blessings of his family, especially his wife Priyanka Gandhi and brother-in-law Rahul Gandhi.
“My association with politics is only because I am a member of the Gandhi family. But for many years, political parties have used my name to create distractions during elections,” he said.
Vadra argued that every time there’s a major political issue or election, his name is brought up in an attempt to divert public attention from pressing matters. He referred to this repeated targeting as “a political witch-hunt.”
Despite facing multiple inquiries over the years, Vadra maintains that he has cooperated with every investigation and will continue to do so. He also acknowledged that being part of the Gandhi family has both benefits and challenges, adding that he has learned immensely from his politically active family members.
As the Congress party prepares its campaign strategy for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Vadra’s potential entry into politics and the ED summons could become flashpoints in the broader narrative of alleged political misuse of investigative agencies—a theme the opposition has frequently raised against the BJP.
