Several passengers were injured on Wednesday when a roadways bus plunged into a 100-meter-deep ditch in the Bhimtal area of Uttarakhand’s Nainital district, according to officials.
The bus, operated by the Roadways Department, was en route from Bhimtal to Haldwani and was carrying 20 to 25 passengers at the time of the accident.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) promptly deployed a relief team to the site. The rescue operation is currently underway.
“Today, on 25 December 2024, information was received from the District Control Room, Nainital, that a roadways bus has crashed near Bhimtal, on which the rescue teams of SDRF have left for the spot from Post Nainital and Khairna,” stated SSP Nainital Prahlad Meena.
Further details on the number of injuries and the condition of passengers are awaited as the rescue operation progresses. The cause of the accident is yet to be determined.
