Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant was full of praise for his team’s all-round effort after their 12-run win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in Lucknow. With this result, LSG notched their second win of the season, and Pant highlighted the key performers and the importance of adapting to conditions.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Pant credited his team’s growing maturity and flexibility:
“One thing is sure is that the wicket is playing really well and we need to figure out what’s working for us and what is not. Very simple. Before we wanted a different kind of wicket, but whatever was offered to us we will take it and play,” he said.
The captain had special words for Mitchell Marsh, who gave LSG a blazing start with a 60 off 31 balls, including nine boundaries and two sixes, forming a 76-run opening stand with Aiden Markram.
“When a player like Mitch [Mitchell] Marsh gives us a start like that, it gives time to the middle-order. That’s the idea, we want to play according to the situation, the kind of start we got it put us in a good state,” Pant added.
Despite a spirited fightback from MI during the chase, Pant praised his team for maintaining composure in crunch moments:
“Mentally, it was tough for all of us. They were not losing too many wickets, kudos to them, but we held our nerve and finished it off.”
Shardul Thakur, who bowled a tight 19th over conceding just seven runs, was hailed as a key asset:
“He is amazing for us, now I can say that he has been an amazing pick. We need to back him,” Pant said.
Young spinner Digvesh Singh Rathi, who returned with impressive figures of 1/21 in a high-scoring game and dismissed the dangerous Naman Dhir, was named Player of the Match. Pant was effusive in his praise for the youngster:
“He is one of our leading bowlers, the way he is holding his nerve and good to see a youngster perform like that.”
With this win, LSG continue to build momentum and will look forward to their next match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on April 8.
