London [UK], July 10: As India prepares to face England in the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant shared his reflections on India’s memorable 2021 victory at the venue and expressed optimism about the team’s growing confidence.
In a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Pant said, “Everyone knows it’s an iconic ground. Everyone coming together to win that Test match was so amazing to see. Now, God has been kind that I got a chance again with a different team in a different role.”
India’s last tour to England ended in a 2-2 draw, with the famous Lord’s victory being a standout moment. As the third Test begins on July 10, Pant highlighted the momentum India gained after their dominant 336-run win at Edgbaston, which helped level the current five-match series at 1-1.
“See the way the team is playing, everyone is getting confident with every match. This is something we’re going to take from the last match as a team — lots of confidence — and hopefully we can make it a 2-1 series now,” Pant added.
Veteran batter KL Rahul also shared his excitement about returning to Lord’s, where he previously etched his name on the honours board with a century.
“It’s a happy feeling to come here and enter the dressing room and see the honours board, and have your name on it. Hopefully, I can put in a great performance once again and make sure that I get as many runs as I can to put my team in a winning position,” said Rahul, who has scored 152 runs in 2 Test matches at Lord’s, including a brilliant hundred.
India’s triumph at Edgbaston came without ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, with standout performances from Shubman Gill, who scored 269 and 161 in two innings, Mohammed Siraj with a six-wicket haul, and Akash Deep, who claimed ten wickets in the match.
Historically, Lord’s has been a challenging venue for India. Out of 19 Test matches played there, England has won 12, while India has secured just three victories.
The stage is now set for another thrilling encounter as India aims to take a crucial lead in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series.
