Kiren Rijiju, BJP Leaders Slam Congress Over ‘Gayab’ Jibe At PM Modi Amid Pahalgam Attack Fallout

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday sharply criticized the Congress party for its controversial ‘Gayab’ jibe targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling it a disrespectful act during a time of national mourning and security concerns.

“When our Prime Minister is leading the fight against terrorism strongly, why does Congress have such a low opinion of him? How low will the Congress stoop? I abhor this Congress party’s antics,” Rijiju posted on social media platform X.

BJP, Allies Close Ranks Around PM Modi

Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan echoed Rijiju’s sentiment, urging the opposition to rise above politics and support the government in combating terrorism.

“The PM and the Government of India have taken the right steps in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Instead of standing with the nation, the opposition sends a pro-Pakistan message. Their statements are condemnable,” Harichandan said.

The Controversy: Congress’s ‘Gayab’ Post

The Congress party sparked outrage after posting a graphic labeling Prime Minister Modi as ‘Gayab’ (missing), alluding to his absence from a recent all-party meeting convened after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians, including a Nepali national.

The post has drawn sharp backlash from BJP leaders, with accusations that Congress is undermining national unity.

BJP Spokesperson: Congress Has Become “Lashkar-e-Pakistan”

BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia took the criticism further, calling Congress “Lashkar-e-Pakistan Congress,” suggesting the party echoes sentiments similar to terror sympathizers.

“A strong message has been given to Pakistan that supporters of Mir Jafar are present in India. ‘Sar tan se juda’ has become the ideology of Lashkar-e-Pakistan Congress today,” Bhatia said, referencing extremist slogans used by radical groups.

Congress Defends Itself

Meanwhile, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh defended the post, accusing PM Modi of political prioritization over national unity.

“PM Modi had time to campaign in Bihar but not to attend the all-party meeting on the terror attack. He should join the discussions in Parliament and explain what happened. There is no political agenda here. Our only message is unity,” Ramesh stated.

Congress has insisted that its criticism is about accountability, not disrespect.
