Washington DC [US], February 6: Singer-actress Rihanna is set to take on an exciting new role in the upcoming musical animated film Smurfs, where she will voice the iconic character of Smurfette. The highly anticipated film, produced by Paramount Pictures, is based on the beloved characters created by Peyo, and is directed by Chris Miller. Written by Pam Brady, the film is slated for release on July 18.
In a special trailer reveal, Rihanna introduced her character and expressed her excitement for the movie. “I’m Rihanna and I play Smurfette in the new Smurfs movie, and I can’t wait for you all to see it this summer,” she said.
The plot of the film centers around a thrilling rescue mission led by Smurfette, as Papa Smurf (voiced by John Goodman) is mysteriously abducted by evil wizards Razamel and Gargamel. The trailer showcases the Smurfs enjoying life in their peaceful village when suddenly, a UFO swoops in to capture Papa Smurf, throwing the village into chaos. Smurfette then leads a brave group on an adventure to the human world to rescue him, facing numerous challenges along the way.
Along with Rihanna, the voice cast includes a star-studded lineup, such as James Corden, Nick Offerman, JP Karliak, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Natasha Lyonne, Sandra Oh, Octavia Spencer, Nick Kroll, Hannah Waddingham, Alex Winter, Maya Erskine, Billie Lourd, Xolo Mariduena, Kurt Russell, and John Goodman.
The movie is produced by Jay Brown, Ty Ty Smith, Robyn Rihanna Fenty, and Ryan Harris, with Rihanna herself being part of the production team. The trailer and plot have already sparked excitement among fans, looking forward to what promises to be a fun and heartwarming adventure.
