Cannes [France], May 20: Global music icon Rihanna made a surprise appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, gracing the red carpet at the Palais to support her partner A$AP Rocky during the premiere of Highest 2 Lowest.
Turning heads with her radiant sky-blue gown, Rihanna brought star power to the premiere, standing beside Rocky, who stars in the Spike Lee-directed film alongside acting legend Denzel Washington.
Rihanna, who is currently expecting her third child with A$AP Rocky, had earlier revealed her pregnancy at the 2025 Met Gala earlier in May. The couple are already proud parents to two sons — RZA, aged 3, and Riot, 20 months.
Speaking with Variety, Rocky opened up about being part of a power couple, saying, “We both got movies coming out the same year. I didn’t even realize that. Wow! Shout-outs to us, we’ve been working.” Rihanna recently released a new song for the upcoming Smurfs movie, in which she also voices Smurfette.
Highest 2 Lowest is an English-language remake of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 classic High and Low, now reimagined in present-day New York. The film features a star-studded cast including Denzel Washington, Ilfenesh Hadera, Jeffrey Wright, Ice Spice (in her cinematic debut), and A$AP Rocky.
Reflecting on his experience working with Denzel Washington, Rocky shared, “It was like a dream come true. But trust me, it was difficult to not fan out every millisecond of the duration. It was crazy — it’s Denzel, man. I’m always going to be a student and a fan of certain people, and I’m never going to be too big to say that.”
Directed by Spike Lee, Highest 2 Lowest is already generating buzz for its compelling cast and modern retelling of a timeless classic.
