Rajasthan Human Rights Commission Takes Cognizance Of Sitapura Tragedy; Issues Notices To Achal Jewelers, Officials

The Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of the tragic industrial accident that claimed the lives of four workers due to exposure to poisonous gas in a safety tank at Achal Jewelers in the Sitapura Industrial Area, Jaipur.

Commission Chairman Justice Gar Mulchandani has issued notices to key authorities including the Jaipur District Collector, Police Commissioner, and the CEO and owner of Achal Jewelers, demanding accountability and immediate action.

“An effective investigation must be conducted, and those responsible must face immediate action,” stated the Commission in its notice. “Compensation must be provided to the dependents of the deceased without delay.”

In addition to directing District Collector and Police Commissioner to submit a detailed investigation report, the Commission has also summoned Achal Jewelers Private Limited’s CEO Arun Kumar Kothari and executive Vikas Mehta to explain their role and submit a compliance report on compensation to the victims’ families.

The Commission has further emphasized the human rights angle of the incident, citing concerns over negligence in worker safety protocols.

A hearing is scheduled for June 16, 2025, at 11:30 AM, where all parties involved are expected to appear and present their reports.

The incident has sparked outrage among labor rights activists and civil society groups, who have demanded strict enforcement of industrial safety norms and justice for the victims’ families.

As investigations continue, the focus remains on ensuring accountability, preventing future tragedies, and upholding the dignity and rights of workers across Rajasthan’s industrial sectors.
