Retired Lt Gen Kanwal Jeet Singh Dhillon Wins Crossword Book Award For Debut Book ‘Rewrite’

New Delhi (Delhi) [India], December 9: Retired Lieutenant General Kanwal Jeet Singh ‘Tiny’ Dhillon was awarded the Crossword Books Award for Best Non-Fiction Book in the Popular Choice Category for his debut memoir, KITNE GHAZI AAYE KITNE GHAZI GAYE. The award was presented by renowned journalist Bachi Karkaria at a ceremony held at The Lalit Mumbai on December 8, 2024.

Dhillon’s book offers a deeply personal account of his life, from his childhood experiences at the age of three to his pivotal role as the Commander of the Chinar Corps in Jammu and Kashmir. The memoir touches on significant historical events, including the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits, the Pulwama attack, the Balakot airstrikes, and the abrogation of Article 370, providing insight into their socio-political, economic, and law-and-order implications. Through compelling anecdotes, KITNE GHAZI AAYE KITNE GHAZI GAYE takes readers behind the scenes of key developments in Jammu and Kashmir during a critical phase in the region’s history.

Commissioned in December 1983, Lt Gen Dhillon has had a distinguished 35-year military career, holding various command, staff, and instructional roles. Prior to becoming the Chinar Corps Commander, he served as the Director General of Perspective Planning. Over the years, he has had multiple tenures in Jammu and Kashmir, including as Sector Commander of the Rashtriya Rifles and Brigadier General Staff of the 15 Corps. He is also a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, and the National Defence College, Delhi.

Throughout his career, Lt Gen Dhillon has made significant contributions to military operations and training, both in India and abroad. On assuming command of the Chinar Corps, he extended his greetings and best wishes to the people of Kashmir and the entire Chinar Corps fraternity.
