“They Are Nowhere To Be Seen”: Rescue Op Underway As Building Collapses In Delhi’s Mustafabad

A tragic early morning collapse of a four-storey building in Delhi’s Mustafabad area has left at least four people dead, while 14 others have been rescued. As per police reports, 8 to 10 people are still feared trapped under the debris.

The incident occurred around 3 AM, sending shockwaves across the neighborhood. Locals were jolted awake by the sound of the collapse.

Eyewitness Grief and Desperation

Shehzad Ahmed, who lost two nephews, recounted the horror:

“The building collapsed around 2.30-3 am. Two of my nephews have died. My sister, brother-in-law, and niece are also injured. They are admitted to GTB Hospital,” he told media.

Another local resident shared the anxiety of not being able to trace neighbors:

“Two men and two daughters-in-law live there… Both women have three children each… Right now, we don’t know anything. They are nowhere to be seen.

Rescue Operation Underway

Sandeep Lamba, Additional DCP (North East), confirmed the continued rescue efforts:

“Fourteen people were rescued, four of them have succumbed. It was a four-storey building… 8-10 people are still feared trapped.”

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Delhi Fire Service are on-site, coordinating with local police in what officials describe as a critical window of rescue.

Divisional Fire Officer Rajendra Atwal said the distress call came around 2:50 AM:

“We reached the spot and found the building had completely collapsed. People are still trapped… NDRF and Fire Services are working tirelessly.”

Recurring Urban Risk

This is not an isolated incident. On April 11, just two days prior, a wall of an under-construction building collapsed near Madhu Vihar, killing one and injuring two during a dust storm.

This latest incident raises serious questions about building safety standards in densely populated urban neighborhoods. As the rescue operation continues, concern for those still trapped remains high.
