Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India]: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced a comprehensive relief package for the victims of a Bhimtal bus accident in Nainital district. The accident claimed four lives and left 21 injured after a roadways bus fell into a 100-meter-deep gorge.
Relief Measures
In a press release from the Chief Minister’s Office, CM Dhami instructed:
- ₹10 lakh compensation to the families of the deceased.
- ₹3 lakh for the seriously injured.
- ₹15,000–₹25,000 for those with minor injuries.
The Chief Minister expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.
Community and Rescue Efforts
CM Dhami extended gratitude to the local community for their prompt assistance during the rescue operations alongside the police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). On X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “The dedication of the rescue teams and the local people in helping during this difficult time is highly commendable.”
Details of the Accident
SP Nainital, Jagdish Chandra, provided further details, explaining that the bus, traveling from Pithoragarh to Haldwani, lost control before plunging into the gorge.
- 21 passengers sustained injuries.
- The injured were rescued with the help of locals and relief teams.
- The seriously injured are being treated at Sushila Tiwari Government Hospital, Haldwani, with additional support from a team of doctors dispatched from AIIMS Rishikesh.
CM Dhami’s Response
Addressing the tragedy, CM Dhami emphasized the state’s commitment to ensuring timely medical assistance for the injured. “The news of the deaths is heart-rending. I pray for the families of the deceased and for the injured to recover quickly,” he stated.
