New Delhi [India]: Rekha Gupta is set to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi on Thursday afternoon at Ramlila Maidan. Her husband, Manish Gupta, expressed his joy over the development, calling it a “miracle.”
“We never thought that she (Rekha Gupta) would become the Chief Minister of Delhi. It seems like a miracle… It is a matter of happiness for us that the party has given us so much respect,” he told reporters.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rekha Gupta, who represents the Shalimar Bagh assembly constituency, will take the oath alongside six other MLAs who will serve as cabinet ministers.
Rekha Gupta’s Vision for Delhi
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP leadership, Rekha Gupta said:
“It is a huge responsibility. I thank PM Modi and the BJP high command for having faith in me… I will fulfill my responsibility with utmost honesty… My first priority is to complete all the commitments our party has made, and the second priority is that all our 48 MLAs will work as a team. I never thought I would be the CM of Delhi. The previous corrupt government will have to give an account of every rupee belonging to the people.”
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at 12:15 PM, with top political leaders, including PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other Union Ministers, expected to attend.
New Cabinet Ministers
Along with Rekha Gupta, the following MLAs will take oath as ministers in the new Delhi government:
- Parvesh Sahib Singh
- Ashish Sood
- Manjinder Singh Sirsa
- Ravinder Indraj Singh
- Kapil Mishra
- Pankaj Kumar Singh
Delhi’s Fourth Woman CM
Rekha Gupta will become the fourth woman Chief Minister of Delhi, succeeding Aam Aadmi Party’s Atishi. This continues a unique tradition, as Delhi has had women CMs from the BJP, Congress, and AAP, a distinction that few other states in India share.
She has previously served as the general secretary of BJP Mahila Morcha in Delhi and was a member of its national executive committee. During her tenure, she launched several initiatives for the welfare of marginalized communities and women.
BJP’s Victory in Delhi Assembly Elections
In the recent Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP secured 48 out of 70 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won only 22 seats. The Congress failed to win a single seat for the third consecutive election.
