Rekha Gupta Takes Charge As Delhi CM, Receives Warm Congratulations

New Delhi [India]: Since Rekha Gupta assumed office as the Chief Minister of Delhi, a wave of congratulations and well wishes has followed. A large crowd gathered outside her residence to greet her as she embarked on her new role.

Among the well-wishers was Savita Roy, Principal of Daulat Ram College, Gupta’s alma mater. Expressing her joy, Roy said:

“I have fond memories of her. She always fulfills the promises she makes. My blessings are with her. All of us are with her.”

Addressing the public, CM Rekha Gupta shared an inspiring message for students:

“I feel proud… I want to tell the students from Delhi University, especially from Daulat Ram College, that it is not just Rekha Gupta who has become the CM; all of you have become the CM.”

Gupta’s political journey dates back to 1995 when she won the post of General Secretary in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections as a candidate from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

Alka Lamba Remembers College Days with Rekha Gupta

On Wednesday, Congress leader Alka Lamba shared a nostalgic moment from 1995, posting an old photo of herself with the newly appointed Chief Minister. The picture dates back to when Lamba won the DUSU President post from the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), while Gupta secured the General Secretary post from ABVP.

Lamba congratulated Gupta on her new role, saying:

“This memorable photo from 1995 – when Rekha Gupta and I took oath together. I won the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) Adhyaksh post from NSUI, and Rekha won the MahaSachiv post from ABVP. Congratulations and best wishes to Rekha Gupta.”

She also expressed hope for positive changes under Gupta’s leadership:

“Congratulations to Delhi for getting its fourth woman Chief Minister. We hope that the Yamuna will be clean and daughters will be safe.”

Key Decisions in Rekha Gupta’s First Cabinet Meeting

On Thursday, after chairing her first cabinet meeting, CM Gupta announced the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Delhi and the tabling of 14 pending reports from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).

One of the key findings in the CAG report highlighted a revenue loss of Rs 2,026 crore due to irregularities in the Delhi government’s excise policy. The report pointed out:

  • Rs 890 crore loss due to the government’s failure to re-tender surrendered licenses before the policy period ended.
  • Rs 941 crore loss due to exemptions granted to zonal license holders.
  • Lack of transparency in pricing and violations in license issuance, which were not penalized.

With Gupta’s leadership now in place, all eyes are on her administration’s next steps to address these concerns and bring reforms to the capital.
