Amid repeated ceasefire violations by Pakistan, Amritsar authorities urge residents to stay away from windows and remain indoors as military tensions escalate along the India-Pakistan border.
Amritsar (Punjab) [India], May 11: In light of escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan, the District Collector of Amritsar has issued a red alert, advising residents to stay indoors, avoid windows, and remain calm as a precautionary measure.
In an official announcement released Sunday, the Amritsar District Administration emphasized that while power supply has been restored, the area remains under red alert due to the ongoing security threat. Sirens have been activated to signal the emergency, and all residents are instructed to avoid going near windows, balconies, terraces, or public roads.
“We have restored power supply for your convenience, but we are still on red alert. Sirens will sound now, indicating this red alert. Please don’t move out of your house; stay indoors and away from windows. We will inform you once we get the green signal. Please ensure compliance and don’t panic,” the District Collector stated.
The alert comes after multiple ceasefire violations were reported along the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC), violating an understanding reached between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan earlier the same day.
At around 4:39 am, the Amritsar administration had already issued an initial advisory urging residents to turn off lights and maintain low visibility.
“By way of abundant caution, please remain indoors with lights off and move away from windows. Please do not move out on roads, balconies, or terraces. Don’t panic. We will let you know when normal activities can resume,” read the earlier statement.
India Responds to Pakistan’s Ceasefire Breach
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, addressing a special briefing on Saturday, confirmed that Pakistan had violated the agreement reached during the DGMOs’ communication.
“For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier this evening. This is a breach of the understanding. Our armed forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response,” Misri stated.
He emphasized that India takes these violations very seriously and urged Pakistan to act with responsibility and seriousness.
“We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations. The armed forces are maintaining a strong vigil on the situation and have been instructed to deal strongly with any repeat violations,” Misri added.
According to officials, India’s armed forces remain on high alert across both the IB and LoC and are actively responding to provocations. While no civilian casualties have been reported in Amritsar so far, emergency protocols remain in effect.
The red alert and strict advisories mark one of the most serious civilian safety interventions in the region in recent months, reflecting the gravity of the renewed cross-border tensions.
Residents are urged to continue monitoring official updates, stay inside, and remain calm as authorities assess the evolving situation.
