Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]: The Mumbai Police have recovered a portion of the blade extracted from actor Saif Ali Khan’s spine, while efforts to locate the remaining part continue, an official confirmed.
The incident occurred at around 2:30 am on Thursday in Saif’s 11th-floor Bandra residence during a suspected burglary attempt. The intruder reportedly confronted the actor’s maid, which led to a violent altercation when Saif intervened. The actor sustained multiple stab wounds during the scuffle.
Medical Update
Saif was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where doctors performed surgery to remove a 2.5-inch blade lodged in his spine and repair a leak in his spinal fluid. While Saif is now “out of danger,” his condition continues to be monitored. Discussions about moving the actor from the ICU to a normal ward are ongoing, as per hospital officials.
Details from the Investigation
The Mumbai Police have registered an FIR and formed 20 teams to apprehend the attacker. DCP Zone 9, Dixit Gedam, confirmed that the assailant used the fire escape staircase to enter the residence, describing the incident as a “robbery attempt.”
In her statement, Saif’s maid recounted the harrowing encounter. “He ran towards me with something like wood in one hand and a long, thin hexa blade in the other. During the scuffle, he struck my wrists and hands with the blade,” she said. The attacker then demanded one crore rupees from the family.
The maid further revealed, “At 2 am, I saw a shadow near the bathroom door. Suddenly, a person emerged and went toward Saif Ali Khan’s son. During the altercation, the intruder attacked Saif with a wooden object and a hexa blade. Hearing the commotion, other household staff came to assist.”
Police Efforts Intensify
DCP Gedam stated, “The accused used the fire escape staircase to enter Saif Ali Khan’s house. This appears to be a robbery attempt. We are working to arrest the accused, with 10 detection teams actively investigating the case.”
The police are reviewing CCTV footage and collecting evidence to track down the intruder, who remains at large.
