Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) [India], January 25 : The Mahakumbh-2025 in Prayagraj has witnessed an extraordinary turnout, with over 10.8 crore devotees taking a sacred dip at the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers, as of Friday.
The Uttar Pradesh government shared a statement from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, celebrating this significant milestone. “The first Maha Kumbh of this century has begun in Prayagraj from January 13. In just 10 days, more than 10 crore devotees have earned merit by taking a dip in the holy Triveni,” the post read.
Despite the chilly weather, a vast congregation of devotees gathered at the Sangam to take part in the ongoing Mahakumbh. Authorities are also preparing for the upcoming Mauni Amavasya on January 29, anticipating an even larger crowd.
Devotees from all over the world have been coming together in awe-inspiring unity, with people from different languages, cultures, and traditions joining for the holy dip. Devotees from conflict-stricken countries such as Russia and Ukraine have also participated, sending a message of spiritual harmony. The atmosphere in Prayagraj has been deeply spiritual, with devotees gathering in the cold winter evening to sing kirtans and chant ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna.’
The Mahakumbh Mela, held every 12 years, is expected to draw massive crowds to Prayagraj from January 13 to February 26. Pilgrims come to the Sangam to take a holy dip, believed to cleanse them of sins and grant moksha (liberation).
Rooted in Sanatan Dharma, the event marks a celestial alignment that creates a spiritually auspicious period. With over 45 crore visitors expected, the Mahakumbh 2025 is set to be a historic occasion for India.
