Real Madrid extended their winning start to the 2025-26 La Liga season with a commanding 4-1 victory at Levante on Tuesday. Kylian Mbappe scored twice to reach seven league goals in six matches, while Vinicius Junior opened the scoring with a superb strike, and Franco Mastantuono also found the net for Xabi Alonso’s side, keeping their 100 percent record intact.
Second-placed Barcelona will visit Real Oviedo on Thursday, trailing Madrid by five points.
“It was a very good game, from the start, we were really committed in defence and the first goal was fundamental, to go ahead and give us confidence,” said Alonso.
Vinicius Shines
Vinicius, who had been unhappy being substituted against Espanyol on Saturday, started on the left flank and delivered a standout performance.
“Vini had a very complete, very good game and I am very happy for him,” Alonso added.
The Brazilian winger opened the scoring after 28 minutes, following a bright opening for Los Blancos. After a save from Valencia goalkeeper Mathew Ryan, Vinicius used the outside of his right boot to bend a beautiful effort into the far post, assisted by Fede Valverde.
Vinicius then set up Mastantuono, who rifled home for his first goal for the club since joining from River Plate. Madrid continued to threaten, with Vinicius denied by Ryan from close range before halftime.
Levante’s Brief Response
Levante striker Karl Etta Eyong gave the home side hope, nodding home his fourth goal of the season after a deflected cross from Ivan Romero. However, that hope was quickly dashed by Mbappe.
A clumsy challenge by Unai Elgezabal in the box allowed Mbappe to convert a penalty with a cheeky dink down the middle, followed two minutes later by a second goal after being released by Arda Guler.
“There are still things we can do better, but we’re on a good path and we have to continue along it,” Alonso said, ahead of their city clash with Atletico Madrid on Saturday.
“We’re in a construction phase… there’s still a lot we have to do. We’re building a solid base, and in the team many players feel connected and important.”
