Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India]: The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will don their iconic green jerseys in Sunday’s IPL match against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The green kits, made from recycled fabric, are part of RCB’s long-standing sustainability initiative that emphasizes environmental conservation.
RCB, recognized as a carbon-neutral T20 franchise, uses the green jersey match to spread awareness about eco-conscious practices and aims to become carbon-positive. The initiative is part of a wider campaign that encourages fan engagement and environmental responsibility.
Rajesh Menon, COO of RCB, said,
“Our green jerseys are more than just a symbol; they are a call to action. As proud representatives of the Garden City, sustainability is a natural priority for us.”
RCB backs this commitment with carbon audits, tracking everything from diesel generator emissions and fan travel to waste generation during matches. The team also evaluates travel footprints, accommodation-related emissions, and waste impact, ensuring a comprehensive environmental assessment.
Some of RCB’s green efforts include:
- Stadium waste segregation
- Use of renewable energy (solar and wind)
- Green schools and lake rejuvenation projects across Bengaluru
- Encouraging fans to pledge for energy conservation
The green game against Rajasthan Royals is scheduled for Sunday, April 13.
