What should have been a moment of unbridled joy for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and its devoted fanbase turned tragic on Wednesday, as a stampede-like situation near M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the IPL victory celebrations claimed 11 lives and left 33 others injured.
In the wake of the devastating incident, RCB has announced an immediate financial relief of ₹10 lakh each to the families of the deceased and launched a new initiative—‘RCB Cares’—to provide medical and financial assistance to the injured fans.
“The unfortunate incident in Bengaluru yesterday has caused a lot of anguish and pain to the RCB family. As a mark of respect and solidarity, RCB is extending support to the families affected,” the franchise said in an official statement.
The franchise expressed deep grief over the turn of events that overshadowed their historic maiden IPL title win, calling the fans their “heartbeat” and pledging to remain united in this moment of sorrow.
The tragedy unfolded when thousands of fans thronged the streets around the stadium to celebrate and glimpse their favourite players. The swelling crowd led to a stampede-like situation, turning a city-wide celebration into a heartbreaking calamity.
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah: Investigation Underway
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, addressing the media, confirmed the deaths of 11 individuals and injuries to 33 others, and ordered an investigation into the circumstances and crowd control arrangements.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy. We will ensure accountability and extend all possible assistance to the affected families,” said Siddaramaiah.
‘RCB Cares’: A Long-Term Commitment to Fans
RCB’s relief initiative, RCB Cares, is intended to go beyond immediate aid and offer ongoing medical support, rehabilitation, and compensation to those injured in the incident.
“Our commitment to fans is not limited to the field. RCB Cares is a reflection of our gratitude and responsibility,” said the team’s management.
As the city comes to terms with the tragedy, RCB has urged fans to observe a moment of silence and donate to the relief efforts in memory of those who lost their lives in celebration of their beloved team.
While RCB’s IPL 2025 title remains a milestone in sporting history, it will now also be remembered for the deep human loss that accompanied the jubilation.
