Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], February 11: Popular YouTuber-podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia has landed in legal trouble following an offensive comment made on India’s Got Latent. The controversial remark has sparked a massive backlash online, with many criticizing the content aired on the show. His comments have reignited debates over content regulation on digital platforms and OTT services.
Several celebrities, including actor Jackky Bhagnani, have expressed their disappointment, with Bhagnani stating, “Bhaut galat hai jo bhi hai…I don’t agree with it at all. I don’t support it also.”
On Monday, a formal complaint was filed against Allahbadia, social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, comedian Samay Raina (the show’s host), and the organizers of India’s Got Latent. The complaint was filed in response to the inappropriate language used during the show, which many viewers found offensive.
The controversy escalated when Allahbadia, known for his YouTube channel BeerBiceps, made the offensive remarks. This sparked widespread outrage, leading to reactions from various industry bodies, including the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA). AICWA condemned Allahbadia’s remarks as “abhorrent” and “disrespectful” to societal and family values. The association demanded a ban on the show and legal action against those involved.
In response, Allahbadia issued a public apology. In a video shared on his X account, he acknowledged his comments were inappropriate and insensitive. He admitted that his attempt at humor was misguided and expressed regret for his poor judgment, saying, “Comedy is not my forte, I am just here to say sorry.” Allahbadia also addressed concerns about his influence on younger audiences, promising to use his platform more responsibly in the future, stating, “Family is the last thing that I would ever disrespect.”
He further requested the producers of India’s Got Latent to remove the insensitive sections from the episode, and concluded by asking for forgiveness, saying, “I hope you can forgive me as a human being.”
