Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 30: Amid growing speculation over possible organisational changes in the Karnataka Congress, party general secretary and state in-charge Randeep Surjewala is scheduled to hold meetings with Congress legislators in Bengaluru on Monday.
Addressing the development, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara said he was unaware of the specific reason behind Surjewala’s visit. However, he suggested that discussions may focus on the party’s organisational structure in view of the upcoming Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat elections.
Parameshwara emphasized that it is the responsibility of the Congress high command to intervene when necessary, especially when minor differences emerge within the state leadership. “Sometimes the high command intervenes — that’s their job. It’s natural for them to speak to leaders when differences arise,” he said.
The minister also stated that he has requested a personal meeting with Surjewala. “I have sought time to meet him, and he agreed. My meeting is of a personal nature,” Parameshwara clarified.
Surjewala’s visit comes a day after Minister KN Rajanna made a cryptic remark about a potential political development in Karnataka expected in September.
Parameshwara further noted that Surjewala might issue firm instructions to party MLAs to avoid airing internal party matters in public. He reiterated that any such intervention by the high command does not imply a loss of control by the Chief Minister.
“Whenever there are minor internal differences, the high command steps in. They’ve done this in the past too, collecting feedback on departmental progress. That doesn’t mean the CM has lost grip over the situation. Their visit only helps them gain a better understanding of how our administration is functioning,” he said.
