New Delhi [India]: Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday criticized US President Donald Trump’s remarks about “taking over” the Gaza Strip, calling them “bizarre,” “dangerous,” and “totally unacceptable.”
“President Trump’s loud thinking on the future of Gaza is bizarre, dangerous, and totally unacceptable. A two-state solution that fulfills the completely legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people to lead a life in independence and dignity, and also ensures security for Israel, is the ONLY basis for sustainable peace in West Asia,” Ramesh wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

He also urged the Modi government to clarify its stance, adding:
“The Modi Govt. must make its position absolutely clear. Other governments have done so already.”
Global Reactions to Trump’s Gaza Plan
Trump announced that the US would “take over” Gaza, dismantle dangerous weapons, clear destroyed buildings, and work toward economic development in the region. The statement has triggered strong reactions globally.
- Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri called the plan “ridiculous and absurd,” warning that it would fuel “chaos and tension” in the region.
- Hamas spokesman Abdel Latif al-Qanou said the US stance aligns with Israeli extremists, accusing Trump of trying to displace Palestinians.
- Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Secretary-General Hussein al-Sheikh reaffirmed that the PLO rejects any displacement of Palestinians from their homeland.
- Riyad Mansour, Palestine’s UN delegation leader, insisted that Palestinians in Gaza should be allowed to return to their original homes in Israel.
The two-state solution remains the preferred path for peace, according to international organizations and Palestinian leaders.
