New Delhi [India], January 22: Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, renowned for his iconic crime drama Satya, has revealed details about his upcoming project Syndicate, promising it to be his most ambitious and chilling work yet.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Varma described the film as a deep dive into the rise of a dangerous criminal syndicate threatening India’s very foundation. He explained that while street gangs were once a major concern, today’s real danger lies in a syndicate composed of a coalition of powerful factions—political entities, law enforcement, wealthy businessmen, and even military personnel.
‘Syndicate’ will explore how the growing polarization in the country creates fertile ground for the formation of such a group, Varma noted. Unlike supernatural horror, this film will highlight the terrifying potential of human beings and the evolution of crime, illustrating how terror always returns in increasingly deadly forms.
This introspective revelation comes after Varma reflected on his previous works, particularly Satya. He admitted that watching the film again after 27 years left him emotionally moved and caused him to reconsider his creative journey. Varma confessed that the success of Satya and Rangeela led him to stray from his original path, intoxicated by his own fame and success. He expressed regret for the betrayals caused by this shift, saying, “I became drunk, not on alcohol, but on my own success and arrogance.”
Determined to regain his creative focus, Varma vowed to create something as impactful as Satya in his remaining years, leading to the development of Syndicate. He promises that this upcoming film will be terrifying not because of supernatural elements, but because it will expose the dark truths of human nature and the potential horrors ahead.
The film will kick off with a chilling statement: “Only man can be the most terrifying animal,” and follow a secretive organization aiming to replace India with a “New India” through a series of devastating, terror-filled events.
Details on the film’s cast and production are expected to be revealed soon.
