Qingdao (China): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met his Chinese counterpart Admiral Dong Jun on Friday in the Chinese port city of Qingdao, where he called for the avoidance of “adding new complexities” to India-China bilateral ties.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Defence Ministers’ Conclave of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and focused on fostering a forward-looking dialogue between the two Asian powers.
“It is incumbent on both the sides to maintain this positive momentum and avoid adding new complexities in the bilateral relationship,” Singh said in a post on X after the talks.
The Defence Minister described the discussions as “constructive and forward-looking,” highlighting the importance of maintaining open communication and stability, especially in the context of past border tensions.
India and China have experienced strained military relations following the Galwan Valley clash in 2020, and both nations have since held several rounds of diplomatic and military-level talks aimed at de-escalation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Singh’s visit to Qingdao marks a significant step in renewing dialogue under a multilateral setting, with both sides expected to continue working through diplomatic and defence channels to ease ongoing tensions.
