New Delhi, India—July 27, 2025— Today, Union Minister Rajnath Singh spoke at the Gati Shakti University commencement event in Vadodara, Gujarat, via video conference. He praised the school as a lively example of “both speed and power.” He stressed that the institution is not just a regular school, but “an idea, a motion, a mission” to change India’s logistics and transportation industries.
Gati Shakti University, which became a Central University under the Ministry of Railways in 2022, is different from other universities because it focuses on training top-notch workers for the important logistics and transportation fields. Singh pointed out its unique approach by saying, “This university is a living example of both speed and power.” It puts a lot of focus on knowledge that is only useful. They teach more than just book knowledge; they also teach how to solve real situations. He praised the university for its practical, real-world applications in important fields including railways, engineering, logistics, artificial intelligence, and data science. He was sure that its graduates will bring new ideas and purpose to their work.
Singh told the graduating class, “Today, all of you students are getting a degree from a dynamic university, one of the most prestigious study centers in the country for logistics.”
The Defense Minister also talked a lot about how important the National Logistics Policy is. This policy aims to create a logistics network across the country that is connected, efficient, and cheap. He said that the policy’s goal is to lower India’s logistics costs from the present 13–14 percent of GDP to levels that are equivalent to those of industrialized countries. This will make Indian products more competitive in both domestic and international markets. He went on to say, “Lowering logistics costs will make all sectors more efficient and will lead to more value-added and business growth.” The National Logistics Policy started in September 2022 with the goal of making India’s $150 billion logistics sector more efficient by using technology, improving infrastructure, and encouraging movement by more than one mode.
Singh stressed how important strong logistics are, using the recent Covid-19 pandemic as a strong example. “Millions of vaccines made it to every part of the country, oxygen tanks got to hospitals on time, and medical teams were flown to where they were needed through the Air Transport Corridor.” He went on to say that all of this was only possible because of superior logistics, which shows how important the sector is to the country’s ability to bounce back from disasters. He also said lately that “seamless logistics management” was a “deciding factor” in the success of Operation Sindoor, an Indian military operation that began in May 2025.
He also talked about how the institution is in a unique position to shape the future of logistics in India and praised Gujarat for its historical and present contributions to the country’s prosperity. Singh called Gujarat a place of deep thinkers and reformers, paying tribute to its history. “This is the land where Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati set an example for social awakening and where Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel worked to bring the country together,” he remarked. He then praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi in particular, saying, “And in this Gujarat, we got a visionary leader like Mr. Narendra Modi, who succeeded in creating a new definition of development and national interest in the politics of this country.”
Singh ended his speech by describing Vadodara, the city where Gati Shakti University is located, as “a wonderful confluence of knowledge, culture, and technology.”
The convocation ceremony was a big deal for the growing institution. It was attended by a lot of important people from India’s logistics and infrastructure sectors, as well as faculty members and graduating students.
