Rajkummar Rao recently found himself at the centre of intense online speculation after a viral video from a Mumbai event showcased a noticeable change in his appearance. With fuller cheeks, thinning hair, and a patchy beard, the actor’s look triggered widespread discussion on social media, with fans expressing concern over his health, speculating about cosmetic procedures, and trying to guess which project he might be preparing for.
Putting an end to the rumours, Rao took to social media to clarify that his transformation was intentional and part of his preparation for an upcoming biopic on renowned public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam. In a detailed note, the actor explained that altering his physical appearance is an integral part of his acting process and something he genuinely enjoys doing.
“I’m not a believer in prosthetics as long as I can achieve the look through my hard work,” Rao wrote, revealing that he gained nearly 9–10 kilograms for the role. He shared that the weight gain was deliberate and achieved through a rich diet consisting of pizzas, sweets, aloo parathas, biryani, and by avoiding anything that would make him look glamorous on screen.
Rao also reminded fans that this is not the first time he has undergone drastic physical changes for his roles. Over the years, he has significantly lost weight for Trapped, gone partially bald and gained weight for Bose: Dead/Alive, and adapted his physicality to portray a visually impaired character in Srikanth. His commitment to transforming himself for characters has become a defining trait of his acting journey.
The viral video initially sparked mixed reactions, with some users expressing genuine concern for his well-being, while others suspected the look was part of a character transformation. Many fans and industry observers eventually defended him, pointing out that the appearance seemed too specific to be coincidental. After his clarification, the online conversation shifted from speculation to admiration for his dedication and discipline.
Rao also confirmed that he has completed filming for the Ujjwal Nikam biopic and is now preparing for another major project. He will soon begin a new phase of physical training to portray former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly in an upcoming biographical film, which is expected to go on floors around March 2026.
Once again, Rajkummar Rao’s transformation underscores his reputation as one of Bollywood’s most committed performers—an actor who is willing to push his body and appearance to serve the story, rather than relying on artificial enhancements or shortcuts.
