Jaipur: Police have arrested a man from Alwar district, Rajasthan, for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI. The accused, Mangat Singh, was presented before a special court in Jaipur on Saturday and remanded to police custody for three days. He was arrested on Friday.
Singh, a resident of Govindgarh, Alwar, is alleged to have been in contact with a female Pakistani handler for the past two years, passing sensitive information regarding Indian Army and BSF movements through social media, officials said.
“He had saved the handler’s numbers under names such as ‘Isha Sharma’ and ‘Isha Boss’. He shared several photos and videos linked to Army and BSF movements, particularly from Alwar Cantonment and Ambala Cantonment areas,” said a public prosecutor.
Investigators revealed that Singh allegedly received over ₹10,000 in multiple transactions from Pakistan in exchange for the intelligence. His mobile phone reportedly contained records of sensitive exchanges, including coded messages hinting at troop movements prior to Operation Sindoor.
Singh, who worked in a local factory, was known as a ‘Siddh Purush’ and often participated in religious events, which allowed him to gain rapport with defence personnel and civilians. “He used religious gatherings to build trust and came in contact with several Army and BSF personnel,” the prosecutor added. Authorities are now preparing to question individuals who may have interacted with him.
The intelligence unit of the Rajasthan Police detained Singh, and following interrogation by intelligence agencies, he was formally arrested under the Official Secrets Act on Friday.
