Rainfall Brings Relief To Delhi, But Gusty Winds Cause Damage; IMD Warns Of Thunderstorms Across India

New Delhi: Rainfall lashed parts of the national capital on Saturday, bringing much-needed respite from the sweltering heat and turning the weather more pleasant. However, strong gusty winds accompanying the showers led to infrastructure damage and traffic disruptions in several areas.

At the Rapid Rail Metro’s Ashok Nagar station, a shed was damaged by the powerful winds. Meanwhile, in Noida, several trees were uprooted, falling on vehicles and causing significant traffic snarls. A traffic light pole at DM Chowk also collapsed due to the intensity of the wind, further worsening the situation for commuters.

Nationwide Weather Forecast: IMD Warns of Persistent Rains, Thunderstorms

According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) scientist Akhil Srivastava, the wet weather is not limited to Delhi.

“Southern India, especially Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka, will experience persistent rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds for the next five days,” Srivastava told media.

He added that central and northeastern regions, including Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh, will also continue to witness wet and stormy weather. In contrast, eastern India will grapple with hot and humid conditions, while northwestern India may face a combination of thunderstorms and heatwave spells.

Delhi May See More Relief, But Winds Remain a Concern

Residents of Delhi can expect more light rain and thunderstorms later in the evening and on Sunday, with a potential drop in temperatures to 37–39°C. The rainfall is anticipated to provide a brief respite from the ongoing heatwave, though the accompanying winds are raising safety concerns.

Heatwave Concerns Remain

The changing weather patterns come amid increased concerns over rising heatwave incidents across northern India. The IMD has advised citizens to stay updated on local weather alerts and take necessary precautions, especially in regions forecasted to experience extreme heat or wind-related hazards.
