Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) [India]: Several areas of Vijayawada were affected by waterlogging on Sunday morning following a bout of rain, as unstable weather conditions persist across Andhra Pradesh.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a continuation of similar weather in Vijayawada, with “partly cloudy skies and one or two spells of rain or thundershowers” expected through May 7.
Ronanki Kurmanath, Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), confirmed that the state will experience a mix of weather patterns until Wednesday. While some regions will endure heat wave conditions, others may see thunderstorms and rain.
Scattered rainfall is expected across multiple districts including Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Konaseema, East and West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Palnadu, Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor, and Tirupati. Light to moderate showers accompanied by lightning are also anticipated on Monday and Tuesday.
The APSDMA has urged the public to avoid taking shelter under trees and to remain cautious of gusty winds. Daytime temperatures are forecast to stay high, ranging between 41.5°C and 43°C in several parts of the state over the next two days.
Authorities have also advised individuals with pre-existing health conditions—such as heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension—to avoid going outdoors during peak heat hours and to refrain from strenuous activities in the sun.
In addition to Andhra Pradesh, the IMD also predicts isolated to scattered rainfall, thunderstorms, and wind speeds of 40–60 kmph across parts of North India, including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan through May 6.
