Rain Threat Looms Over Crucial DC VS MI Clash At Wankhede Amid IMD Yellow Alert

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]: A crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 showdown between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday could face disruption, as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai from Tuesday evening, warning of rainfall for the next four days.

According to ESPNcricinfo, heavy showers hit the city around 8 PM on Tuesday, affecting team preparations. Notably, DC wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul’s net session was cut short due to the downpour, although Mumbai Indians completed their practice earlier in the evening. Dark clouds loomed over Wankhede for most of the evening, raising concerns about matchday conditions.

If the match is abandoned due to rain, both teams will earn one point, significantly impacting the playoff race. Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya, currently sit fourth on the table with 14 points from 12 matches. Meanwhile, Axar Patel’s Delhi Capitals trail close behind in fifth with 13 points from the same number of games.

In such a scenario, both sides will be forced to rely on their final league games to clinch a spot in the playoffs:

  • Mumbai Indians will face Punjab Kings (PBKS) at home on May 26.
  • Delhi Capitals will take on PBKS earlier, on May 24, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Squads:

Mumbai Indians:
Ryan Rickelton (w), Rohit Sharma, Will Jacks, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya (c), Naman Dhir, Corbin Bosch, Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, Karn Sharma, Raj Bawa, Robin Minz, Reece Topley, Ashwani Kumar, Mitchell Santner, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Krishnan Shrijith, Raghu Sharma, Arjun Tendulkar, Bevon Jacobs, Satyanarayana Raju

With playoff qualification hanging in the balance, fans and teams alike will be watching the skies closely, hoping the weather permits a full game at one of IPL’s most iconic venues.
