Patna: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched a scathing attack on the Nitish Kumar-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government on Sunday, alleging gross negligence that led to the death of a minor Dalit girl, a rape victim from Muzaffarpur, at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).
In a strong post on social media platform X, Gandhi said:
“The brutality against a minor Dalit girl in Muzaffarpur and the subsequent negligence in her treatment is extremely shameful. If she had received timely treatment, her life could have been saved. But the double-engine government was negligent not only in providing security but also in saving her life.”
He assured the grieving family of full support and justice, adding:
“We will not sit quietly until the victim’s family gets justice. Strict action should be taken against the culprits and negligent officers.”
Congress Stages Protest, Calls Out “Healthcare Failure”
The Congress party staged a protest in Patna on Sunday, demanding accountability and immediate justice. Bihar Congress Chief Rajesh Ram condemned both the horrific crime and the alleged systemic failure that followed.
“She was raped, then brutally attacked. When her life could have been saved, the government failed her again through delay and negligence. This is not just a crime—it’s an institutional failure,” he stated.
Medical Negligence Allegations Denied by PMCH
While the family alleges that AIIMS Patna refused treatment, leading to a four-day delay before she was admitted to PMCH, the PMCH Incharge Superintendent Abhijit Singh refuted claims of negligence.
“She was brought in a critical condition, and we provided all necessary medical care, including ICU support. The allegations of delay are baseless,” Singh told media.
What We Know So Far:
- The minor Dalit girl, a resident of Kundli village in Muzaffarpur, was allegedly raped and attacked, according to officials.
- After being denied treatment at AIIMS Patna, she was admitted to PMCH in critical condition, where she later died.
- The incident has sparked statewide outrage and renewed questions over healthcare access and women’s safety in Bihar.
Justice Demands Mount
The case has galvanized civil society, opposition leaders, and activists, who are calling for:
- Immediate arrest of all accused in the rape and assault.
- An independent investigation into the medical treatment timeline.
- Punitive action against any officials found negligent.
With growing national attention, the incident is shaping into a serious political and social flashpoint for the Nitish Kumar government, just weeks ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament.
The call for justice grows louder—and the demand for accountability, louder still.
