New Delhi [India], January 9: Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, will address an election rally in Delhi on January 13 in the run-up to the upcoming Delhi Assembly polls, according to sources.
The Congress party has already released its first list of candidates for the election. Recently, Congress also unveiled the ‘Jeevan Raksha Yojana’ for Delhi, which promises a health cover of Rs 25 lakh per family. The announcement was made by former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who referred to the scheme as a “game changer” for Delhi.
Gehlot drew comparisons with Rajasthan’s successful “Chiranjeevi Yojana,” noting that the Delhi health cover scheme would offer more comprehensive benefits than the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which he argued has certain limitations.
In response, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal emphasized that the upcoming assembly elections would be a direct contest between the AAP and BJP, not a battle within the INDIA alliance. Kejriwal expressed gratitude to the parties supporting AAP, including Mamata Banerjee and Akhilesh Yadav.
The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with vote counting on February 8. The last date for filing nominations is January 17, and the final day for withdrawal of candidacies is January 20.
While Congress has faced setbacks in the past two elections, AAP is aiming for a third term, highlighting its achievements in the education and health sectors. In the 2020 elections, AAP secured 62 out of 70 seats, while BJP won 8 seats.
