Aravalli (Gujarat) [India], April 15: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched the ‘Sangathan Sirjan Abhiyan’ in the Modasa area of Gujarat’s Aravalli district on Tuesday, marking a major push to rejuvenate and restructure the party at the grassroots level.
This initiative is aimed at empowering District Congress Committees, introducing a new system of accountability, and strengthening the party’s organisational backbone. It comes in response to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s call for 2025 to be the “year of organisational reforms”, a theme that was echoed during recent meetings of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) and All India Congress Committee (AICC) in Ahmedabad.
Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal wrote on X:
“Today and tomorrow, Shri Rahul Gandhi will be in Gujarat to kickstart this process. He will be launching the INC’s Sangathan Sirjan Abhiyan in Modasa, Aravalli district… The first objective is to strengthen the party organisation by empowering District Congress Committees and introducing a new system of accountability.”
Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Gujarat spans two days and signals the party’s commitment to cleaning house and improving internal structures ahead of upcoming state and national elections.
Referring to his March 9 interaction with Gujarat party workers, Gandhi reiterated the need to remove individuals within the party who may be aligned with the BJP:
“We need to build a genuine relationship with the people. That means taking strict action against those working from within for the BJP. Even if we must remove 10, 15, or even 30 such people, we should do it,” he had said.
He added sharply,
“If you’re working for the BJP from inside, you have no place here. Go work for them from the outside.”
Congress leader Ajay Kumar Lallu, speaking earlier today in Ahmedabad, highlighted the symbolism of Rahul Gandhi launching this initiative from Gujarat:
“This is the land of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel. Rahul Gandhi, a follower of Gandhian values, is giving the party a fresh direction through this campaign.”
Later in the day, Gandhi is also scheduled to address an orientation programme for District Observers at the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) headquarters in Ahmedabad around 3 PM.
Meanwhile, as part of the broader strategy revamp, the Congress has also begun coordinating with allies like the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections later this year. A meeting was held today at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence in Delhi, attended by Tejashwi Yadav and Rahul Gandhi, to align campaign strategies.
