Congress leader accuses the government of favoring select capitalists, while Lok Sabha gears up for a special discussion on the Constitution’s adoption.
New Delhi, December 13: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday criticized the central government’s privatization policies after meeting individuals associated with Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) at the Parliament Complex in Delhi. Rahul Gandhi alleged that even profitable PSUs are being privatized and accused the government of handing over national assets to a “select group of capitalists.”
Taking to its official handle on X, the Congress party stated, “Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi met people associated with Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). The Modi government is bent on privatizing even the profitable PSUs. The country’s assets are being handed over to select capitalists. We have been raising our voices against this issue from the streets to the Parliament and will continue to do so.”
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi also attended the meeting, signaling the party’s united front on the issue.
Meanwhile, ahead of the Lok Sabha’s special debate on the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that autonomous bodies were being misused and criticized the state of governance in the country.
The two-day debate, set to begin today at 12 noon, will feature newly elected Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is expected to deliver her maiden speech in the Lok Sabha. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will likely initiate the discussion, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to respond on December 14 evening.
Over 12 BJP leaders and several members of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are expected to participate, including HD Kumaraswamy, Srikant Shinde, Shambhavi Chaudhary, and Anupriya Patel. Sources indicate that BJP leaders may refer to the Emergency period and address “fake narratives” allegedly propagated by the opposition.
Opposition parties, including the DMK and Trinamool Congress, will also contribute to the debate, with leaders such as TR Balu, A Raja, Kalyan Banerjee, and Mahua Moitra expected to speak.
Both the BJP and Congress have issued a three-line whip to ensure the attendance of their members during the session. The winter Parliament session, which began on November 25, has seen disruptions but is scheduled to continue until December 20.
