Rahul Gandhi, CJI Sanjiv Khanna Meet PM Modi To Discuss Appointment Of New CBI Director

New Delhi [India]: Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Monday to deliberate on the appointment of the next Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), according to official sources.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna also joined the meeting, which forms part of the statutory selection committee comprising the Prime Minister, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and the CJI.

The meeting comes amid the impending end of term for the current CBI Director, Praveen Sood, a 1986-batch IPS officer from Karnataka. Sood has held numerous key positions over his 37-year career, including advisory roles to foreign governments and leadership in investigations involving cybercrime and cross-border cases.

The closed-door discussion is expected to shape the selection of a candidate who can lead India’s premier investigative agency amid increasing scrutiny and public interest in high-profile corruption and criminal investigations.

A formal announcement regarding the new CBI chief is expected in the coming days.
