Rahul Gandhi Challenges Amit Shah To Debate His Press Conferences; Heated Clash In Lok Sabha During Electoral Reforms Debate

The Lok Sabha on Wednesday saw intense verbal sparring between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi during the ongoing debate on electoral reforms. The confrontation began when Rahul Gandhi abruptly interrupted Shah’s speech, demanding a public debate on statements he had made in recent press conferences.

Rahul Gandhi declared,
“Let us have a debate on my press conferences. Amit Shah ji, I challenge you to have a debate on my three press conferences.”

Amit Shah responded sharply, asserting that he would not rearrange his speech based on interruptions or pressure from the Opposition.
He said,
“First of all, I want to make it clear… I have long experience, and I will decide the order of my speech. They should be patient. I will answer each question, but they cannot decide the order of my speech.”

Following the exchange, Rahul Gandhi accused the Union Minister of being defensive, saying Shah’s reaction reflected that he was “rattled and scared.”

A video of the heated moment has since circulated widely.

Amit Shah Responds to Rahul Gandhi’s ‘H-Bomb’ Claim

The tension followed Gandhi’s earlier allegations regarding voter list manipulation, which he had described as an “H-bomb” during a press conference.

Shah countered Gandhi’s claims point-by-point, stating that the Congress leader had alleged 501 votes being registered at a single house in Haryana, calling it an “atomic bomb revelation.”

The Home Minister said the Election Commission had already clarified the issue, noting that:

  • House number 265 is not a small building but a one-acre ancestral property shared by multiple families.
  • Individual families were not assigned separate house numbers, leading to the same number appearing for several voters.
  • Several generations reside on the property, and the numbering system has remained unchanged since the Congress government’s tenure in Haryana.

Shah added, “This is not a fake house.”

Debate on Electoral Reforms Continues Amid Opposition Pressure

Wednesday marked the second day of the Lok Sabha’s debate on electoral reforms. The Opposition had repeatedly demanded a detailed discussion on SIR (State of the Electoral Roll Integrity), a demand the government had initially resisted.

The standoff concluded when both sides agreed to proceed with the electoral reforms debate after completing discussions on the Vande Mataram issue.

Both Houses of Parliament have allocated 10 hours for the debate on electoral reforms, signaling an intense political showdown in the coming days.
