Raghav Chadha Slams Trump Administration For Revoking Harvard’s Authority To Enroll International Students

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha has come out strongly against former US President Donald Trump’s decision to bar Harvard University from enrolling international students, describing the move as a direct attack on academic freedom and global collaboration.

Chadha, an alumnus of Harvard University, took to social media on Saturday to express his solidarity with affected students, many of whom now face visa uncertainty and potential deportation.

“President Trump’s recent move threatens the dreams and futures of international students at Harvard and beyond,” Chadha wrote.
“As a proud member of the Harvard community, I wear my colours to show support for inclusion and academic freedom.”

Harvard Hits Back Legally: “Unlawful and Unwarranted”

In a strongly worded statement, Harvard University condemned the Trump administration’s actions, calling them retaliatory and illegal.

“The revocation continues a series of government actions to retaliate against Harvard for our refusal to surrender our academic independence,” the university said.

Harvard has filed a legal complaint and is seeking a temporary restraining order, while its International Office continues to provide guidance to students affected by the ban on F- and J-visas.

White House vs Harvard: A Deepening Standoff

The White House, under Trump, has defended its decision as a necessary corrective measure, accusing Harvard of harboring “anti-American, anti-Semitic, pro-terrorist agitators” amid campus protests related to the Israel-Hamas war.

In a statement to CNN, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson said:

“Enrolling foreign students is a privilege, not a right. Harvard leadership has repeatedly failed to take action to address the widespread problems negatively impacting American students.”

Targeting DEI and Campus Protests

The Trump administration has consistently pressured Harvard to roll back what it terms “racist diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices”, claiming they contribute to rising campus unrest and antisemitism. The revocation of SEVP certification is the latest escalation in this political and ideological battle.

Global Backlash Growing

Chadha is among the first Indian political leaders to respond, reflecting broader international concern. Many fear this could set a dangerous precedent, not only for Harvard but for other U.S. universities with large international student populations.

“We must defend academic freedom and global collaboration,” Chadha added.

What’s Next?

As Harvard pursues legal remedies, the larger implications loom large:

  • Thousands of international students face uncertainty.
  • America’s reputation as a global education hub is under strain.
  • The academic world is watching closely as the fight for campus independence intensifies.

This episode could mark a turning point in the global discourse on higher education, immigration, and free expression—and Harvard, backed by allies like Chadha, is making it clear it won’t back down.
