Patna (Bihar) [India], March 17: Former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Rabri Devi, along with party MLAs, staged a protest outside the state assembly on Monday, criticizing the deteriorating law and order situation in Bihar. Rabri Devi claimed that “no one is safe” in the state under the Nitish Kumar government.
During the protest, she highlighted the rising number of murders in the state, particularly emphasizing the 22 murders that occurred over the two days of Holi. She lashed out at the Nitish Kumar-led government, stating that even senior government officials and police officers were falling victim to crime.
“If 22 murders happened in just two days during Holi, how many might be happening every day? They say there is good governance here, law and order is fine. Where is the law and order fine? If government officials, inspectors, and constables are being murdered, then what about the common people?… This is Mangalraj; such things did not happen in Jungle Raj. Inspectors and constables were not murdered, this is happening in Mangalraj, where no one is safe,” Rabri Devi said, accusing the state government of failing to ensure safety.
This protest followed the tragic murder of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Santosh Kumar Singh in Bihar’s Munger. Singh had gone to mediate a dispute between two parties on the evening of Holi when he was attacked and killed. The incident led to the suspension of three policemen, including Mufassil SHO Chandan Kumar, a BCP jawan, and a Dial 112 driver, as stated by Munger SP Syed Imran Masood.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Rakesh Kumar confirmed that seven individuals have been identified as suspects in the murder, with five already in police custody. According to the DIG, Singh was rushed to the hospital after the attack but succumbed to his injuries during treatment in Patna. He also mentioned that one of the accused, Guddu Yadav, was injured when the police fired at him in self-defense.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects, as authorities work to bring justice to the slain officer.
