New Delhi, April 15: Actor R Madhavan praised the upcoming film Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh as a powerful and authentic depiction of Indian history, calling it one of the proudest films of his career.
Speaking at a special screening in New Delhi, Madhavan said, “It’s a good portrayal of history, the way it is supposed to be. The British made a film about us called Gandhi; now we’ve made this film.”
Kesari Chapter 2 explores the aftermath of the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre and centers around a gripping courtroom drama between C Sankaran Nair, portrayed by Akshay Kumar, and Neville McKinley, a British Crown lawyer played by Madhavan.
“I’ve had the good fortune to be part of many historical films, but this one stands out. It’s my proudest work. I hope everyone watches this film. The message is loud and clear — we are a proud nation with proud people. The days of taking Indians for granted are over,” Madhavan added.
The film received a boost of political support when Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri attended the screening along with Delhi BJP Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa. Akshay Kumar expressed gratitude to the Minister for organising the event and supporting the project.
The film’s significance was also echoed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who recently praised the heroism of C Sankaran Nair at a public gathering in Haryana. “Inspired by Jallianwala Bagh, he raised his voice against British atrocities. He was removed from his post, but he didn’t stop. He brought the British to court — that’s what unity and humanity truly mean,” PM Modi said.
Sharing a video of the Prime Minister’s tribute on Instagram, Akshay Kumar wrote, “Thank you Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji for remembering the great Chettur Sankaran Nair ji and his contribution to our freedom struggle. Kesari Chapter 2 is a humble effort to remind everyone that we must never take our freedom for granted.”
Kesari Chapter 2 is slated for theatrical release on April 18, 2025.
