Washington [US], January 28: Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino shared insights into his current break from directing and his focus on fatherhood during a conversation at the Sundance Film Festival.
“I’m in no hurry to jump into production right now, I’ve been doing that for 30 years,” said Tarantino, reflecting on his time away from filmmaking. “I kinda want to wait until my son is six before diving into my next project.”
The acclaimed director, known for his two Academy Awards, also revealed that he’s working on a project which he plans to finish by next year. “If it’s a smash hit, it might be my last movie,” he said, hinting at the possibility of it being the final film of his career.
Tarantino also spoke about his creative ventures outside of filmmaking, including his debut novel, which was a novelization of one of his films, released in 2021.
While away from directing, he explained that part of his decision comes from wanting to preserve the magic of the theatrical experience. “They pay a lot of money to get into that seat,” he said of moviegoers. “There’s no taping it, no cell phones—it’s just you and them. It’s not just about creating art, it’s about wowing them, giving them a great night out. To me, that’s the last frontier.”
