New Delhi [India]: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, announced on Friday that the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting is expected to be held in Washington, D.C., coinciding with the inauguration of US President-Elect Donald Trump.
Speaking at the weekly media briefing, Jaiswal stated, “The Quad Foreign Ministers Meeting is expected to be in Washington, D.C., for the inaugural ceremony of President Trump… Further details will be shared later.”
According to a report by NHK World on January 13, Japan’s government has been coordinating with the US, Australia, and India to organize a Quad foreign ministers’ meeting following Trump’s swearing-in ceremony.
Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi, during NHK’s debate program on Sunday, confirmed his attendance at the inauguration of the Trump administration on January 20. Sources suggest that Japan is actively working on arranging a Quad framework meeting during Iwaya’s US visit.
Japan aims to use the meeting to reaffirm its commitment to the Quad’s shared vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific and to strengthen cooperation among the four nations. Additionally, the Japanese government is planning a bilateral meeting between Foreign Minister Iwaya and the newly appointed US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to bolster US-Japan relations.
Sources indicate that top diplomats from the Quad nations will focus on building trust and enhancing alliances. They are also expected to arrange an early meeting between the leaders of the US and Japan, pending final decisions based on the US Senate’s approval of Cabinet appointments.
India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, will represent the Indian government at the inauguration ceremony of Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States.
