Qatar Airways Resumes Flights After Temporary Suspension Amid Middle East Tensions

Doha, June 24: Qatar Airways has officially resumed its flight operations following the reopening of Qatari airspace, which was briefly closed on Monday due to escalating regional conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.

In an official post on X (formerly Twitter), the airline confirmed the restoration of services and highlighted its efforts to support passengers during the disruption.

“Qatar Airways confirms the reinstatement of flights as airspace reopens in the State of Qatar. Our focus at this time is to help our passengers return home or reach their onwards journey safely and smoothly,” the airline stated.

Additional Ground Staff Deployed

To manage the passenger rush and ensure smooth transitions, extra ground staff have been deployed at Hamad International Airport, the airline’s main hub in Doha.

Timeline of Suspension

Earlier, Qatar Airways had temporarily suspended all flights following the government’s announcement to close national airspace amid growing security concerns in the Middle East.

“As a result of the closure of air traffic movement in the State of Qatar, we confirm the temporary suspension of Qatar Airways flights. We are working closely with authorities to assist affected passengers,” the airline had noted in its prior statement.

Background: Middle East Conflict Escalation

The airspace closure was a direct consequence of escalating military tensions. The crisis began on June 13, when Israel launched ‘Operation Rising Lion’, targeting Iranian military and nuclear sites. In retaliation, Iran’s IRGC launched ‘Operation True Promise 3’, targeting Israeli infrastructure.

The situation worsened when the United States conducted airstrikes on key Iranian nuclear sites under Operation Midnight Hammer. In response, Iran fired missiles at U.S. military bases in Qatar and Iraq, including the Al Udeid Air Base—the largest U.S. base in the region, as reported by CNN.

The regional conflict triggered widespread flight disruptions, embassy advisories, and temporary shutdowns of critical infrastructure.
