PWD Refutes Delhi CM Atishi’s Claims Over Official Residence, Offers Alternatives

New Delhi [India]: The Public Works Department (PWD) has refuted claims made by Delhi Chief Minister Atishi regarding her official residence at 6-Flagstaff Road, stating that she did not take physical possession of the property despite repeated requests.

In an official letter, the PWD clarified that it had offered two alternative residences to CM Atishi—one at Raj Niwas Lane and another in Daryaganj.
“The allottee had failed to take physical possession of the bungalow at 6, Flagstaff Road, despite multiple requests. As per the provision, if the allottee fails to take physical occupation of the house within five working days from the date of issue of the ‘Habitability Certificate,’ the allotment shall be cancelled automatically,” the letter read.

The letter further highlighted ongoing inquiries related to the bungalow.
“An inquiry by the CBI is also underway. The Directorate of Vigilance (DOV) recently sought a factual note on certain allegations related to the construction and renovation of the bungalow, and PWD is in the process of verifying the inventory,” the PWD stated.

Earlier in the day, CM Atishi addressed a press conference, accusing the BJP-led central government of evicting her from the Chief Minister’s residence for the second time in three months.
“Today, the dates for the upcoming assembly elections have been announced… The BJP-led central government has thrown me out of the Chief Minister’s residence for the second time in three months. The BJP thinks they can stop us from working by snatching our houses, abusing us, and speaking ill about my family. They can snatch our houses and stop our work, but they cannot stop our passion for serving the people of Delhi,” she said.

CM Atishi vowed to continue working for the welfare of Delhi’s citizens, stating, “If needed, I will stay at the homes of Delhi’s people and continue working for them. Three months ago, my belongings were also thrown on the road… Today, I take an oath that I will ensure every woman in Delhi receives Rs 2,100, every priest gets an Rs 18,000 honorarium, and every elderly person gets free treatment under the Sanjeevani Yojana.”

The conflicting narratives come amid heightened political tensions as Delhi prepares for upcoming assembly elections.
